Oasis to sue over Brighton allegations
[17 Dec 2002] Official Site
Oasis are considering legal action against a number of UK tabloid newspapers which carried stories over the weekend claiming that the group were booed offstage during their show at the Brighton Centre last Wednesday (11th December) and that Noel wished the fans "died of hypothermia".

A spokesperson for the band said "The story that first appeared last Friday as the cover story of the Daily Star is an incredible distortion of the facts. The truth is the show in Brighton was a successful concert that passed off without incident. The band were not booed offstage, Noel did not wish anyone died and we have a recording of the show to prove it. Those of us who were at the show and many of the industry guests including journalists who attended were shocked to read the press stories. We couldn't believe they were talking about the same show.

"Whatever the press think of members of the band personally, Oasis are one of the most successful and exciting live bands ever to come out of this country. They have never been booed offstage in their ten years of touring. There have always been parts of the UK press who obviously have a vendetta against the band and resent their success but this is really going too far and we cannot accept this fabrication without response."

The group are also considering action in relation to a newspaper article that claimed the first night of their UK tour in Cardiff was far from full, when in fact the show had sold out in less than half an hour.
GO FORTH WITH ANGER
[13 Dec 2002] dotmusic
The Oasis circus has rolled into the UK amid reports of a shambolic date in Brighton, with Noel Gallagher apparently announcing he wished some of the audience would "die of hypothermia". The band's show at the Brighton Centre on Tuesday evening reportedly also featured Liam abusing technicians and hissing his way through the chorus of one of the tracks from current album 'Hindu Times'.

Sporting a new set of front teeth, Liam apparently threw his customary tantrum when technical difficulties led to excessive treble on his vocal. He cursed his sound engineers and his microphone, raging at the inanimate "f**king thing."

When he came to sing the chorus to recent hit 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' he apparently exaggerated the problem by simply emitting a persistent "ssssssssss."

However, fans at the show denied tabloid reports that Noel Gallagher poured scourn on the crowd when they sang along to his acoustic performance of 'Wonderwall'.

The Sun claims that Noel raged at fans when they sang throughout, describing him as having "screamed" at the crowd: "All you c***s who sang to 'Wonderwall', I hope you all die of hypothermia."

However, fans claim that the quote has been taken out of context and was, in fact, another example of good-natured Gallagher humour. They also deny that the band was booed off stage.

Liam dedicates 'Live Forever' to his missing teeth at Oasis comeback
[9 Dec 2002] NME
LIAM GALLAGHER dedicated eLIVE FOREVERf to his missing front teeth on the opening night of OASISf UK tour last night.

The show at the Cardiff CIA (December 8) marked the groupfs first live performance since their fracas in a German hotel, in which Liam is alleged to have kicked a German policemen and battled with a group of Italians.

The band took to the stage at 9pm, with Liam clad in camouflage jacket, his trademarked half-crescent tambourine clutched in hand.

Noel Gallagher remained silent for the majority of the show, but loosened up a little in a short solo acoustic spot, performing acoustic readings of eMarried With Childrenf and eThe Masterplanf.

Earlier in the weekend however, Noel had hinted that relations were still strained between the Gallagher brothers.

"All I'm bothered about is that he can still sing," he told the News Of The World newspaper. "My concern is for his voice. But I haven't spoken to him directly. Why should we talk after what's gone on? Since I've been back I've been looking after my daughter.

"I really don't know what we're going to do about his drinking and behaviour - we've been here before but I really don't want to be here again, if you take my meaning. At least the tour is back on and I'm glad because I don't want to let down any of our supporters."

Oasis were forced to cancel their remaining four European mainland dates in the aftermath of the brawl so Liam could return to the UK for vital dental surgery. The group continue their UK tour this evening with a second show in Cardiff, and are due to end at the Birmingham NIA on December 19. All shows are sold out.
Liam's dental dedication...
[9 Dec 2002] BBC Radio1
Liam Gallagher dedicated a song to his teeth during the opening night of Oasis' UK tour in Cardiff last night (Sunday). It was the first gig since the group were forced to cancel two shows in Germany.

Liam had to have extensive dental work done after he was involved in a club brawl last week, but managed to recover in time for the string of UK shows.

The band were said to be on fine form, with Liam showing no signs of a lisp or any speech problems.

Some fans bought joke plastic teeth to throw on to the stage, and thankfully Liam saw the funny side and even dedicated 'Live Forever' to his gnashers.

But some fans were disappointed - no-one spoke for the first half-hour, there was no banter between the band (Liam and Noel are still not talking to each other), there was none of the usual swearing and no encore.

They will perform in Cardiff again tonight before moving on to Brighton, Plymouth, Sheffield, Liverpool and Birmingham.

Liam Gallagher in running to score surprise Xmas Number One
[5 Dec 2002] NME
LIAM GALLAGHER is in the running to score a surprise Christmas number one with 'SCORPIO RISING', the track he recorded with DEATH IN VEGAS. The song is currently 10/1 for the top spot, according to bookies William Hill, placing it higher than pop favourites Darius, Will Young, Blue and The Cheeky Girls.

Liam's biggest competition will come from Robbie Williams with 'Feel' at 7/1, Gareth Gates also at 7/1, Louis Walsh's all girl group from Popstars: The Rivals at 7/2 and the runaway favourites One True Voice - Pete Waterman's all-boy group from the same show.

The track was recorded in DIV's Contino Rooms studio in Hoxton earlier this year. The version on the album features Liam's vocal recorded in one take.

If Liam does climb to top of the chart, it will mark his first Number One outside of Oasis. He has some catching up to do on brother Noel. Noel scored a number one in October 1996 when he lent vocals to the The Chemical Brothers' 'Setting Son'. In 1999, his second track with the The Chemicals' 'Let Forever Be', peaked at Number Nine.
LIAM FACES THE MUSIC
[5 Dec 2002] dotmusic
Liam Gallagher spent almost three hours having surgery on his teeth yesterday, in dental work set to cost around ’20,000, following last weekend's brawl in Germany.

The Oasis wildman is expected to get the go ahead to return to the live stage within days, allaying fears that his voice would be affected by the fight in Munich on Saturday evening.

Gallagher refused to open his mouth on his return to the UK yesterday and said nothing as he went to Dr Philip Stemmer's dental surgery in Harley Street, London for the extensive work, accompanied by three bodyguards and girlfriend Nicole Appleton.

Dr Stemmer told a UK tabloid: "He will sing again soon", following the surgery, which comes as Oasis prepare for their forthcoming UK tour, which kicks-off in Cardiff on December 8.

Stemmer explained: "He's fine. I see no reason why he should not be able to sing again soon. But I cannot discuss his treatment. It would be un ethical of me to do so. What I can add though, is that it was not an abnormal amount of time in the chair."

There are suggestions that Liam, who was one of five arrested - including Oasis drummer Alan White - in the aftermath of the fight, will be left with a lisp.

The only words Gallagher has uttered so far in public since returning to England was to one of the many photographers waiting at Heathrow airport on his return. He told a snapper, who walked into a post while pursuing him, to "take a photograph of that."
According to BBC, Liam said "I'd take a picture of that if I were you mate,"
Liam back in UK following postponement of Oasis' Euro tour
[4 Dec 2002] NME
LIAM GALLAGHER has arrived back in the UK after the fracas in Germany that led to the postponement of OASIS' European tour. Liam jetted in from Munich on British Airways flight BA955 to Heathrow last night (December 3), to a gaggle of tabloid press and photographers awaiting his arrival.

The star remained tight-lipped over the incident in a Munich hotel (December 1), which led to the pulling of four shows in the country.

The group issued a statement claiming they were the victims of an "unprovoked attack", but German police claim the singer kicked an officer "in the chest with full force", resulting in minor injuries. There is no mention of whether Liam's injuries will cause problems for the band's UK tour, which starts at the Cardiff CIA on (December 8). However, a spokesperson for the band has told NME.COM that as far as they were aware, the shows were going ahead as planned.
OASIS POSTPONE REMAINING GERMAN TOUR DATES
[3 Dec 2002] Official Site
Following the events of last weekend Oasis have reluctantly taken the decision to postpone the remaining dates on their German tour. The damage to Liam's teeth is worse than it first appeared and he will have to return to the UK for surgery before he will be able to perform again.
Brawling Liam Kung Fu'd cop
[3 Dec 2002] The Sun Online
OASIS wildman Liam Gallagher Kung-Fu kicked a cop during the hotel brawl in which he lost his two front teeth, it was revealed yesterday. The crazed star also wielded a metal ashtray stand like a club as he and members of the band's tour party fought Wild West-style with a bunch of gangsters.

An Oasis minder was knocked out cold. And drunk Liam, 30, was smashed in the face with a heavy object. But he was so out of control that he continued fighting with blood pouring from his mouth. Bayerischer Hof

Twenty cops stormed into Munich's plush Bayerischer Hof hotel as the battle spilled out from its nightclub into the reception area. Liam was arrested after he kicked an armed policeman in the ribs "with full force". He was handcuffed and bundled into a police van, screaming and cursing. He was charged with assault, attacking an officer, resisting arrest, damaging property and trespass. Police sources in Munich said he could face a fine of up to £300,000.

Four other members of the Oasis party - two backing musicians and two security men - were also held. The five were kept in custody at a police station near the hotel for 13 hours. Their fingerprints and photos were taken before they were freed on bail totalling £180,000.

Liam spent most of yesterday in a dentist's chair undergoing emergency work on his broken teeth. Oasis cancelled a gig in Munich after the fracas, which erupted at 2am on Sunday. Last night's concert in Hamburg was also called off. And doubt was thrown over shows scheduled for later this week in Dusseldorf and Bremen. Liam's brother Noel, 32, was not present at the fight, reported in later editions of yesterday's Sun. Oasis drummer Alan White was there - and had a brain scan in hospital afterwards. But he was not among those arrested.

One of the held musicians, named as Philip Bevan-Smith, also needed a brain scan. And KO'd minder Robert Nash was still receiving treatment last night. The Oasis party started fighting among themselves as a soul band played in the £900-a-night hotel's nightclub, which shares an entrance with a restaurant called Trader Vic's. And all hell broke loose as one of the group was shoved into a table being used by five Italians - thought to be gangsters involved in trafficking prostitutes from Eastern Europe. Glasses and chairs went flying as the two parties took each other on. And the soul band and clubbers fled. Night Club

Computer salesman Reinhard Moeller, 42, who was drinking with clients, said: "I heard a lot of English swear words then recognised Liam Gallagher among a group of young men. "He was being very obnoxious and seemed to be pointing his finger at someone. One of the group fell into the table next to them. "The place instantly went wild with tables, chairs, glasses and furniture flying everywhere. I ran for my life - it was terrifying."

A 31-year-old witness named Joerg said: "The Oasis group looked like drunken building site workers and behaved just like them. Chairs were flying everywhere and I saw Liam Gallagher with his two front teeth gone. His face was broken."

Liam grabbed the ashtray stand as the brawl continued in the reception lobby. Wealthy guests panicked and scattered as the fighting threatened to smash glass-panelled jewellery cases.

Police last night named the other arrested musician as Steven Allen. Spokesman Damian Kania said blood tests had shown the Oasis party were all extremely drunk.

He added: "Gallagher suffered serious injuries to his mouth and would certainly have required extensive dental treatment. "All the Italians fled but we are trying to trace them. It is not clear if any of them were injured but the British people clearly came off worst."

Liam's police mugshot was being circulated among cops yesterday. His shattered teeth were not visible but his mouth was badly gashed. Another police spokesman said: "The boy didn't look good."

A statement issued on behalf of Oasis claimed Liam and his mates were victims of an unprovoked attack. But that version of events is disputed by police and witnesses.

Michael Blumer, promoter of the Munich gig, wrote off the cancelled concert as "typical Oasis". He said: "The band will make amends in January. I hope Liam will be back with new teeth."

LIAM Gallagher could have been facing JAIL had he kicked the cop in the face. The charges he faces carry a possible 12-month prison term. But Anton Winkler, of Munich's public prosecutions office, said: "Each case is taken on its merits and the injuries sustained by the policeman were not serious.

"If he had been caught in the face that could have been very different." Instead the raging rocker is likely to be fined a huge sum linked to his income. The figure of £300,000 came from police sources.
Oasis singer 'Kicked Policeman'
[3 Dec 2002] BBC
German police have said Oasis singer Liam Gallagher kicked an officer in the chest "with full force" during a fight in a Munich hotel. But the star will probably not face further charges after paying 100,000 euros (£64,000) bail and being released, police have said.

Gallagher was arrested along with drummer Alan White, the band's DJ Phil Smith and two security guards in the early hours of Sunday.

The band said they were victims of an "unprovoked attack" in a nightclub. But according to police, the trouble started when a "physical altercation" broke out among the musicians at about 0200 local time (0100 GMT) .

"In the course of this fight, one of the musicians was jostled, and fell on to the table of other guests, a group of five Italians," said a police spokesman.

"As these people now attempted to get rid of their uninvited guest, there was a larger physical altercation with the Italians."

The band's security staff and hotel workers broke up the fight, but it continued outside, police said. The arrested men underwent blood tests on the grounds of their drunken state

Munich police : "Hotel staff contacted the police, who were at the scene within a few minutes," the police spokesman added.

"One of the officers was kicked in the chest with full force by Liam Gallagher, the frontman of the band, and suffered minor injuries."

The five men were accused of dangerous bodily harm, resisting police, damage to property and disturbing the peace. The police added that the arrested men were given blood tests on the grounds of their drunken state.

'Conditions'

The Munich state attorney applied for custody warrants against the arrested men, but the warrants were suspended "under conditions", police said.

"On Sunday afternoon at around 4pm, they were allowed to leave the police headquarters. The investigations of the criminal police continue," police said.

If there is a prosecution, Gallagher could face two years in prison and the bail money could be kept as a fine.

The band said in a statement: "Several members of Oasis and their entourage were the victims of an unprovoked attack by a group of youths in a Munich club last night, where they were during their European tour."

It said the attackers fled before the police arrived, and members of the group, including Gallagher, were questioned and later released.

As well as breaking several teeth, Gallagher sustained facial injuries, according to the band's website. It is not known whether drummer White was injured.

Noel Gallagher was in bed at the time, according to the band's spokesperson.

Front teeth

Sunday's concert in Munich has been postponed, and a later statement said Monday's show in Hamburg also had to be called off.

"Tonight's show in Hamburg... has been postponed while Liam has further dental work to repair his two front teeth," it said. The shows would be rescheduled shortly, it added.

Oasis kicked off the European leg of their world tour in November and are due to play in the UK this month. In August this year, the group postponed a number of sell-out shows in the US after Noel Gallagher, bass player Andy Bell and keyboard player Jay Darlington were injured in a head on car crash.
