Oasis back Graham Coxon in Blur battle
[18 Sep 2002] NME
NOEL GALLAGHER has taken his revenge on DAMON ALBARN for the Britpop battle of 1995 by publicly siding with estranged BLUR member GRAHAM COXON - and NME.COM can exclusively reveal that NOEL and GRAHAM have already met to discuss the former guitarist's future.

The Oasis songwriter has long harbored resentment against Damon Albarn, following Blur's victory in the bitter fight for Number One between 'Roll With It' and 'Country House' back in 1995. Now Noel has told NME.COM that he recently met up with Graham, who he believes simply "snapped" at Damon's attitude towards Blur.

In NME last week, Damon refused to deny that Graham was out of Blur. Since then, he has refused to discuss Graham, commenting only to NME: "I think there's more important things to consider at the moment - like imminent war." But last week, Noel was outspoken about the falling out between Damon and Graham.

He told NME.COM: "I bumped into him (Graham) the other day. But it's not for me to say, 'cos I've got a lot of time for Graham and it should come from him, not me. If it was the other c---, I'd tell you everything he said 'cos he's a knob. You've got to say this, in Damon Albarn's last couple of interviews he was saying that Blur should be grateful to have him in and it's good for them that he's in Gorillaz and stuff like that, well it's only gonna go one way, innit? You can't be saying things like that to your bandmates you've grown up with. Saying 'well, now that I've done all these things I'm doing you a favour being in this band'."

Liam added: "They should've split up a long time ago. Are they gonna get another guitarist?"

Noel showed his admiration for Graham, telling NME.COM: "They ain't gonna get another guitarist like him, he's a one-off. You've got to be strong to be a in a band, it takes a lot of tolerance. And I'm sure Graham Coxon's tolerance has just snapped. Because if your singer's saying stuff like he was... unbelievable. If I ever came into the rehearsal rooms and said to this lot, 'Look, it's in your interests I'm in this group', they'd just laugh at me. You'd get an amp on yer 'ead, a kick up the arse and 'see yer later'. Damon Albarn always wanted to be a solo artist anyway, he was always very quick to say 'It's all me, all this is me, Gorillaz is all me'."

NOEL GALLAGHER INVESTIGATED
[17 Sep 2002] dotmusic
Noel Gallagher is under investigation by police after a man accused the Oasis stars minders of roughing him up.

Paul Ashbee, a former friend of the band, was allegedly dragged from an executive box at the bands homecoming show last Sunday (Sept 15) after being spotted by an angry Noel.

Onlookers told a UK tabloid: Five heavies went into the box and dragged him out and down the stairs. Noel is reported to have told security: Get that c*** out of here now. Throw him out. He a f***ing c***.

Ashbee was taken from the Lancashire County Cricket ground to the Manchester Royal Infirmary where he was treated for bruising and stiffness. He explained: I dont really want to talk about it because Im very upset. Noel was being abusive. It was frightening and Im seeking legal advice. They were roughing me up and he was saying, Get rid of him.

Four years ago, Ashbee had tried to sue Oasis for failing to give him credit as their founder. He claims to have introduced singer Liam to former guitarist Bonehead more than a decade ago.

An Oasis spokesman told The Sun: He was in a box when Noel saw him and said he didnt want him there because of what has happened in the past. Security asked him to leave and they escorted him out. We are not aware of any injuries and the matter is in the hands of the police.

Manchester police last night confirmed that they were investigating an allegation of assault at the venue.

Oasis rock Old Trafford!
[15 Sep 2002] NME
OASIS made a triumphant return to hometurf last night (September 14) with at the first of two massive outdoor shows. The gig, at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, was the band's biggest Manchester show since their Maine Road bash in 1996.

Celebrities in attendance included former Cast frontman John Power, Primal Scream's Mani and actor Ralf Little.

Despite a troubled live campaign, which has seen Noel involved in a car accident and Liam beset by throat problems, the hit-packed show was uneventful, except for Liam and Noel both urging fans at the front to calm down and avoid any crushing.

Liam did not, however, refer to the venue itself. Rumours had it that the Gallagher brothers had insisted that all promotional material should use the alternative title eLancashire Country Cricket Club', stringently avoiding any reference to the Manchester City fans' arch rivals, Manchester United.

Oasis' full set-list was:

Support came from Richard Ashcroft, The Electric Soft Parade and The Soundtrack Of Our Lives. Ashcroft debuted tracks from his forthcoming second solo album 'Human Conditions', including new single 'Check The Meaning'. His set was light on material from much-maligned 2000 solo debut 'Alone With Everybody', concentrating on Verve tracks. He ended with a radically reworked, bass-heavy version of 'Bitter Sweet Symphony', which did away with the strings the brass parts.

The same line-up return to Old Trafford today (September 15).

Liam and Nicole to wed
[13 Sep 2002] The Sun
OASIS wildman Liam Gallagher is to wed his girlfriend Nicole Appleton. Nicole showed off her diamond engagement ring last night and announced: "I'm over the moon."

The couple, who have a 14-month-old son, Gene, got engaged secretly at the weekend. But last night former All Saints star Nicole, 27, went public with the happy news. Appearing on Top of the Pops, she said: "It's true . . . Liam and I have got engaged. "We haven't set a date yet - we'll think about that later."

Liam, 29, swore he would never marry again after he split from wife Patsy Kensit two years ago.

But a close pal told The Sun last night: "Privately he has always vowed he would make an honest woman of Nicole, though he's tried to keep it under wraps.

"He's really calmed down and realises he was never ready for marriage the first time round.

"He knows Nicole is the one. Gene, Nicole and Liam make a great family and want to grow old together.

"He'd much rather sit at home with Nicole and Gene nowadays than go out and paint the town red."

Rumours that Liam had popped the question spread at the weekend when Nicole deliberately disguised her ring finger at a Radio 1 gig.

Nicole and sister Natalie are at No2 in the charts with Fantasy.

Oasis' Liam walks offstage in Aberdeen
[11 Sep 2002] NME
OASIS UK tour has been dealt a blow after LIAM GALLAGHER walked offstage, complaining of a lost voice. The band were playing the second of two nights at the Aberdeen Exhibition And Conference Centre last night (September 10), their first indoor gigs in Scotland since a show at Glasgow Barrowlands last October as part of their 'Ten Years Of Noise And Confusion' tour.

Towards the end of the band's gig Liam lost his voice, leaving Noel and the rest of the band to fill out the set, which ended with the guitarist playing a solo version of 'Wonderwall'. Noel also performed the encores himself, telling fans Liam had a sore throat.

Liam's throat problems mirror that of the opening show on the band's US tour (August 2). At that date at the, 3,000 capacity Pompano Beach Amphitheater in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Liam announced his voice had gone "awry" during 'Go Let It Out', and walked off. Noel carried on with the show, performing some songs with the band and an eight-track acoustic set.

Oasis are due to play two hometown shows at the Manchester Old Trafford Cricket Ground with Richard Ashcroft (September 14-15) with this weekend. NME.COM can announce that the bill will also include the Electric Soft Parade and Soundtrack Of Our Lives.

Before that, they play another date in Scotland, at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange tomorrow night (September 12).

[4 Sep 2002] NME
