Noel brands Kylie a 'demonic little idiot'
[27 Jun 2002] NME
NOEL GALLAGHER has described KYLIE MINOGUE as a "demonic little idiot" with a stupid name.

The Oasis star said he can't understand how the diminutive singer got to work with respected dance producers. He also says he "doesn't get" Britney Spears, *NSync, Gorillaz and Robbie Williams.

Speaking to this month's OK! magazine, Noel said: "Kylie Minogue is just a demonic little idiot as far as I'm concerned.

"She gets cool dance producers to work with her for some bizarre reason, I don't know why. She doesn't even have a good name. It's a stupid name, Kylie, I just don't get it."

Noel reveals his two-year-old daughter Anais is into Britney Spears: "My daughter started tapping her foot along to Britney.

"Okay, 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' is a classic tune, but she didn't write it, she just mimed it on telly a few times. I don't get the Britney thing. I certainly don't get the *Nsync, the Robbie Williams or the Gorillaz thing. There's a lot of things I don't get."

Noel says his brother Liam's children - Lennon, two, and one-year old Gene - are taking after Liam's wild ways.

He said: "I have to say that his kids take after their father - they'll be a menace to society."

OASIS VIDEO SPECIAL
[27 Jun 2002] dotmusic
> Heathen Chemistry EPK

Many foolishly wrote them off but Oasis are back and arguably sounding as good as ever. Click on the link above to watch a mini-documentary on the making of their new album 'Heathen Chemistry'.
The film features some classic Oasis moments with typically amusing insights into the band from Noel and Gem although Liam appears slightly subdued for once. As well as a chance to see inside their studio, you can also witness clips of the 'The Hindu Times' video, new songs, including 'Force Of Nature', recorded for a German TV appearance, and live footage from the band's intimate Noise and Confusion tour.
And here's some Oasis soundbites lifted from the above film.

- Noel on his own songwriting:
"I've got my enthusiasm back for writing songs. The seven that I've written are seven of my best songs. It's everybody's best."

- Liam on 'Heathen Chemistry':
"I hope people buy it, I hope people love it and hope people think I'm the dogs bollocks."

- Noel on Liam's songs:
"I think 'Songbird' is amazing cos it's really simple and I love it. 'Born On A Different Cloud' - I don't think he wrote it. I think he's lying. When he played it to me I was like "fookin' hell" and his lyrics are mega."

- Noel on winding Liam up:
"Right, I said 'Born On A Different Cloud' is the first single and the arse fell out of (Liam's) trousers. "Fookin' no way," he said. Now you understand what it's like to put something that you believe in so much and put it on a plate for someone to dismiss it in one sentence. You're about to fookin' learn what that's about."

- Noel introducing the Liam-penned 'Better Man' onstage to cheers:
"Was that sarcastic cos it's taken him 30 years to write a song?"

- Noel on winding Liam up again:
"He sits in the dressing room playing the same two chords hoping that someone will go "Hey man, that's a fookin' great chord change," and we all ignore him religious and that fookin' winds him up."

- Noel on the band:
"If we lost it, we've definitely got it back"

Oasis play London's Finsbury Park next week and release 'Heathen Chemistry' on July 1. For more on Oasis check out their official site.

Oasis to split after one more 'great' album?
[26 Jun 2002] NME
LIAM GALLAGHER believes OASIS are edging close to their "great album"c and time for the band to split.

Speaking ahead of the release of new album 'Heathen Chemistry' next week (July 1), the Oasis frontman said he has no worries about a break-up if it were to come.

"It's not about the image now," he believes. "We've done that. Now it's about making a great album - which I think we're getting close to. And if that means the end then fine. I think this is a good album but I don't think it's the best album we'll ever do.

"The next album will be even better and the closer you get to that great album then that will be the time to knock it on the head I think," he adds.

Liam was speaking in an interview to be broadcast on Steve Lamacq's Radio 1 show tonight. During the interview, fans will also hear him rate his bandmates as "the bestc the best band in the world. Even before I thought we were the best band but we weren't, we had the best songs but we weren't the best players."

He adds: "We go out a lot more. It got to a point in '96/'97 where I was just sitting in like a hermit watching TV but now we all go out together."

Meanwhile, in his part of the interview, broadcast last night (June 24), Noel Gallagher predicted a dramatic end forOasis.

"I think if we're going to go out then we we'll go out on top. It's either got to be a plane crash or something monumental," he said.

Oasis do battle with British Army
[22 Jun 2002] BBC
Rock band Oasis have gone to war with the British Army over the use of two of its songs on a recruitment video.

The band's lawyers have ordered that the Highlanders regiment remove the songs Wonderwall and Hello from the soundtrack - or face legal action.

The film, which was shown in shopping malls and schools, was shot during a recent exercise by the 600-strong Edinburgh-based regiment in Kenya.

It shows soldiers performing exercises in desert fatigues and carrying rifles to the sound of the hit tracks from Oasis' 1995 album What's The Story Morning Glory.

But 300 copies have now had to be recalled after songwriter Noel Gallagher refused permission for the songs to be used.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said the promotional video was intended to show "what the regiment had been up to in recent months".

"We didn't realise we needed permission to use the songs until it was brought to our attention," he added.

"Their record label was contacted by the regiment to seek permission but it was turned down and so we've had to recall every one of the videos."

A spokesman for Oasis, whose new album Heathen Chemistry is released on 1 July, was unavailable for comment on Sunday night.

Oasis hit the winner
[21 Jun 2002] The Sun
OASIS anthem Stop Crying Your Heart Out has become the soundtrack to England's World Cup exit - and it could hit No1 tomorrow as a result.

BBC TV and radio stations used the band's epic new single to illustrate the teamfs dramatic defeat.

The moving words, penned by Noel Gallagher, sum up the nation's feelings perfectly - and seem as if they were written with disconsolate stars like Rio Ferdinand, David Seaman and David Beckham, very much in mind.

Shops across the country yesterday reported a stampede for the single, which was released on Monday.

A spokesman for Virgin Records said: gWe predict people will buy it en-masse. It sums up the nation's mood.h

And HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo told The Sun: gWe have found that in certain areas of the country once the match finished there was a noticeable demand for the song. gThe sentiments of the track mean people are coming into the stores and asking for it. It could help it get to Number One.h

The lyrics include the words:

Hold up, hold on, donft be scared, youfll never change whatfs been and gone;

May your smile shine on, donft be scared, your destiny may keep you warm.

Cos all of the stars are fading away, just try not to worry, youfll see them some day, take what you need, and be on your way,

And stop crying your heart out.

Elvis Presley and Oasis battle for UK Number One single
[19 Jun 2002] NME
ELVIS PRESLEY and OASIS are locked in a tight battle for this week's UK Number One single. Oasis released their new single 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' yesterday (June 18). Initial sales reports indicate that the track will be this week's highest new entry. However current chart topper 'A Little Less Conversation', the 'forgotten' Elvis Presley track that soundtracks the current Nike television commercial, is also selling well and could hold on for a second week.

The track has been remixed by Dutch DJ Junkie XL, who was forced by the Presley estate to become JXL on the sleeve as they were unhappy at the drug reference of his name. Elsewhere, other Top Ten new entries are likely from Nelly, and his NME Single Of The Week 'Hot In Herre', Muse, with 'Dead Star' / 'In Your World' and Mis-Teeq's 'Roll On'.

For the final chart positions, click back to NME.COM this Sunday (June 23) at 7pm.

Oasis premiere new tracks as they open world tour
[18 Jun 2002] NME
OASIS opened a new world tour in LYON, France last night (June 17) premiering a raft a new tracks from forthcoming new album 'HEATHEN CHEMISTRY'. The sell-out show at the 1,500 capacity Transbordeur venue saw the band play a 19-song set with seven tracks lifted from the new album - 'The Hindu Times', 'Hung In A Bad Place', 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out', 'Little By Little', 'Born On A Different Cloud', 'Better Man' and 'Force Of Nature'. The early leak of 'Heathen Chemistry' did not appear to have harmed Oasis. All the fans knew the lyrics to the new songs already and sang along throughout the show. Oasis, changing the set dramatically from their 'Noise And Confusion' tour of last autumn, also dusted down favourite standards including 'D'You Know What I Mean?' and 'Morning Glory'. They closed the show with a cover of the The Who's 'My Generation'. The stage-set was simple and muted. A backdrop featured the word 'Exist' printed in white. Liam wore a Beatles T-shirt while Noel favoured a red polo shirt. Support last night came from The Soundtrack Of Our Lives. It's the second time Oasis have played the venue. In November 1994 they shared the bill, ironically, with Blur.

Oasis' return was greeted warmly by fans. "A great band performance," Sylvain Chuzeville told NME.COM. "The boys looked healthy always nice to see them. Liam's voice [was] really good, fresh and powerful."

"There were moments, particularly during 'Born on a Different Cloud' where you could sense the momentary scent of greatness in the air. A fantastic feeling of the brooding, howling Rock'n'Roll monster that could devour all before it," said Andrew Critchley.

Cario Clivio added: "[Liam] was in a brilliant mood, lots of jokes and many expressions with his body. He offered some chewing gum to someone and reminded her to share them with the others."

Oasis continue the tour tomorrow (June 19) at the Razzmatazz in Barcelona.
The set-list was as follows:

The Gallaghers' to follow in 'The Osbournes'' footsteps?
[5 Jun 2002] NME
After the smash hit show 'THE OSBOURNES', NME.COM can exclusively reveal that another rock family could be heading for TV - THE GALLAGHERS. Noel Gallagher has told NME.COM about intimate, fly-on-the-wall footage of Oasis, filmed by one of the bandfs long-time roadies over the last seven years. Noel also spoke about the possibility of letting cameras into his home - and TV production companies have already jumped at the idea. MTV hit 'The Osbournes' has already been confirmed for a second series, with Ozzy and his family earning a rumoured £10 million for the new episodes. The show is expected to spawn several imitations, and the Gallaghers have been identified as a TV family who could be a hit with viewers.

Noel said of their roadiefs footage: "He's had a video camera since '95, and he just films everything and he's got tons of fucking stuff. Us getting pulled at customs and stuff like that." The Oasis man added that, in addition to the archive footage, a fly-on-the-wall 'Osbournes'-style show would be "fantastic" - as long as the cameras were hidden. "Obviously we understand it ('The Osbournes') because that's the way we talk," Noel said. "It looked funny as fuck. I would get too self-conscious - not because I'd look like a knobhead - but because there's things that just wouldn't be real. Unless they hid them [the cameras] in your house and you didn't know. That would be fantastic. But how would you have breakfast with the guy with the big furry thing and someone running around after him with the cable?"

One TV executive told NME.COM that, depending on the level of access, the Gallaghers could command £15,000 per episode - £150,000 for a ten-episode run. This figure is a fraction of the Osbournes' current rates, but Ozzy and his family got much less for the first series, so the Gallaghers could see their fee rocket if the show was a success. Jo Pilkington, Sky TV's senior commissioning executive, was excited about the possibility of 'The Gallaghers'. She told NME.COM: "I think it's a great idea. 'The Osbournes' is great TV and I can't think of a better set-up to replicate 'The Osbournes' than Oasis. Oasis have still got a lot of work to do on the American market, so I see this as a British idea. With Oasis, you take it rough and ready, just like Ozzy. When they're on a roll, that's when you get the best stuff." She added: "I would say that we would be mad not to be interested, although a lot of other stations would be interested as well. But it depends on access. It's clear that, for 'The Osbournes', it's 24/7 access. That would have to be sorted. You want them together the whole time. It's much more interesting to see punch-ups. They make good telly."

Noel's other idea for a show is likely to prove less popular with TV executives, though. "Maybe on cable we could get our own channel, just me and Liam telling it like it is," Noel suggested.
