Ryan Adams inspires Noel Gallagher to play 'Wonderwall' again
[31 Oct 2002] NME
OASIS mainman NOEL GALLAGHER has revealed he didn't feel able to properly perform one of his most famous songs, 'WONDERWALL' , until he heard RYAN ADAMS do an "amazing" cover of it.

The song, a Number Two hit for Oasis in 1995, and one of their most enduringly popular songs, has not been a regular fixture in the band's live set for many years.

Speaking just before he launched into 'Wonderwall' at Tuesday's (October 29) Make Trade Fair charity gig Noel said: "I never got my head round this song until I went to see heard Ryan Adams play and he did an amazing cover of it. So now I'm going to cover one of my own songs in the style of heard Ryan Adams ."

The news will no doubt delight heard Adams . He is a massive fan of Oasis and has included 'Wonderwall' as a mainstay of his live show for some time. And during his show at London's Brixton Academy earlier this summer, Noel joined Adams onstage to work through 'Morning Glory'.

"I love Oasis, I really love Oasis," Adams told NME recently. "We're not good friends, but Noel and have hung out two or three times. They're the best band in the world."

HUNG IN AN AD PLACE
[30 Oct 2002] dotmusic
Oasis have agreed to front a massive marketing campaign for a women's underwear company, dotmusic can report.

The band, who have never before licensed their music for promotional use, are said to have signed a deal with the raunchy New York lingerie range, Victoria's Secret.

According to a UK tabloid, 'Hung In A Bad Place' - a track taken from the band's current album, 'Heathen Chemistry' - will provide the soundtrack for the forthcoming campaign.

"Oasis have seen what ads have done for other bands in the States, so when this offer came up, they took it," an insider told The Sun.

"They haven't made their mark in the US as they have done in the UK and Europe, so maybe this is their way in."

As previously reported, Oasis threatened the British Army with legal action this summer when two of the band's tracks were used, without permission, in an army recruitment video.

OASIS CANCEL PHILIPPINES GIG
[21 Oct 2002] dotmusic
Oasis have cancelled a show in the Philippines due to increased concerns over safety in the area. The band had been due to perform at the Manilla Araneta Coliseum but say they were not prepared to take the "extreme security precautions" now necessary.

The UK foreign office has said there is an "increased threat" of terrorism in south east Asia, following an explosion at a Bali nightclub earlier this month.

A spokesperson for the band explained: "Due to recent terrorist attacks in both Bali and the Philippines, Oasis have regretfully decided not to play their show in Manilla on October 23.

"They did not wish to perform a show under the extreme security precautions that would now have to be taken in order to guarantee crowd and band safety. "Oasis were looking forward to playing to their Philippine fans for the first time, and hope to be able to have another opportunity to do so around their next album release."

As reported earlier today, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been forced to cancel their forthcoming show in Bali following advice from the US state departments.

LIAM SUES
[11 Oct 2002] dotmusic
Liam Gallagher is taking legal action after a tabloid newspaper said he was unfaithful to his fiancee Nicole Appleton.

Last weekend, the People ran a front-page 'expose' claiming that the Oasis frontman had "bedded" an Italian fan who looked like Nicole.

A spokeswoman for Gallagher confirmed that a writ had been served. She told the Media Guardian: "[Liam] is maintaining he did not sleep with the girl in question and he's never been unfaithful to Nicole."

A spokesman for the People has confirmed receipt of a claim form.

[8 Oct 2002] NME
"LIVE FOREVER' has been voted the best OASIS single by readers of NME ORIGINALS,

Liam walks offstage again during Oasis show in Japan
[2 Oct 2002] NME
NOEL GALLAGHER was forced to play an acoustic show after his brother LIAM walked offstage during an OASIS show in Japan. Oasis played at the Fukuoka Kokusai Center (October 1) as part of a world tour. Approximately halfway through the band's set, Liam walked off stage, leaving Noel to play a solo set.

A fan told NME.COM: "At the end his vocal duties in 'Hung In A Bad Place', (Liam) pulled out the microphone and handed it to a crew member. The member came on the stage with three microphones, hooked one up, and went back offstage. At the end of 'Morning Glory', the bandfs sixth song, he forwent the last few lines, and once the song was over left the stage."

The band then left the stage, and after about ten minutes, a chair and acoustic guitar were set up and Noel walked on.

An eight-song solo acoustic performance followed, which featured a botched cover of The Verve's 'Bitter Sweet Symphony', 'Talk Tonight', 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out', 'Whatever', 'The Masterplan', 'Youfve Got The Heart of A Star' and 'Live Forever'.

The full band then returned without Liam and played three more songs without comment. The setlist ran:

Hello
The Hindu Times
Hung In A Bad Place
Go Let it Out
Columbia
Morning Glory

Noel acoustic set:
Stop Crying Your Heart Out
Talk Tonight
Live Forever
Bittersweet Symphony
Whatever
The Masterplan
You've Got the Heart of a Star
Wonderwall

(Oasis set, Noel singing)
She's Electric
Little By Little
Force of Nature
Hey Hey My My
Don't Look Back in Anger

A UK spokesperson for the band is currently unavailable for comment. However, Liam's voice has given out on more than one date on their current world tour.

Oasis are scheduled to play at the Osaka Castle Hall (October 2-3), and more dates in Japan, ending at the Nagoya Rainbow Hall (8). From there, they will go off to Australia for more shows, returning to Europe in November and December.

*Liam was stormed off stage in Fukuoka 2years ago. The promoter announced after the show that to keep the ticket and they'll be announced more detail.

A friend of mine attended this fatal show in Fukuoka. She said "It was awful. I was really pissed off. It happened twice here in Fukuoka. I know it was really rare show, but wanna see OASIS gig in full."

I attended 3shows in Tokyo. I couldn't hear what Noel was saying, even what he was singing sometimes. The Liam's mike also didn't work well. It was a bit frustrating and people were disappointed.
