Liam in police inquiry over 'assault'
[28 Mar 2002] BBC
Oasis singer Liam Gallagher is being investigated by police after allegations that he assaulted someone at a London bar. Police are looking into an incident outside the Met Bar on Thursday night, after they received a complaint of common assault against the 29-year-old singer.

Gallagher was drinking at the fashionable venue with his girlfriend, former All Saints star Nicole Appleton.

He was pictured in several tabloid newspapers leaving the bar and tussling with bouncers.

Police did not reveal who made the allegations, or whether Gallagher had been questioned, but the complaint is not thought to stem from a fracas with a bouncer.

"Police are investigating an incident that occurred outside the Met Bar at approximately 0015 GMT on 22 March 2002 after receiving an allegation of common assault from a member of the public," a spokesman said.

New release

A spokesman for the band said he did not know anything about the incident.

Gallagher is currently preparing to promote his band's hotly-anticipated fifth album, Heathen Chemistry, which will be released in July. The band's first single for almost two years, The Hindu Times, comes out on 15 April. The band are also preparing to play a number of major gigs this summer, including a headline slot at the T in the Park festival in Scotland and their own shows in Finsbury Park, London.

BID HERE NOW!
[26 Mar 2002] dotmusic
Noel Gallagher's 1967 Gibson Firebird guitar is attracting bids of £1,750 at an internet auction, dotmusic has learnt. The guitar is just one of the items up for sale on eBay's rock auction which launched earlier this week.

eBay UK Noel's guitar >>

Here is one of the last decade's most influential guitars in rock; Noel Gallagher's 1967 Firebird that he used with Oasis in the 1990's. This guitar was used live, in the studio, and on videos for the band's hit singles.

This guitar was used on the USA video clip for "Live Forever", possibly their best. And also used on the amazing "Rock'nRoll Star", on UK BBC's "Top Of The Pops". In books, live shots, it is everywhere the band went, even on a Paul Weller video clip - this Firebird traveled. Also pictured on the CD "Don't Look Back In Anger", and in the book "Take Me There, The Oasis Story", by Paul Mathur.

A heavily-modified & refinished guitar even when Noel bought it. A great '67 neck, home-done sunburst, replacement parts, etc. It is easily identified by the distinctive sunburst refinish, which differentiates it from, we would imagine, every other Firebird on the planet. It has new tuners, bridge & tailpiece, strap buttons, knobs & everything else. When Noel first got it, there were P90 pickups fitted as standard, and the guitar was used in that format until early 1995, when two humbuckers and a new pickguard were fitted. The guitar appears in both guises in the band's history, most often in its current two pickup setup.

Comes with a letter from Noel's guitar technician, Jason Rhodes, confirming the guitar's history and Noel's ownership, and also a copy of a letter signed by Jason and Noel listing this guitar among several that we bought from him, and confirming his ownership. Also included is video footage of Giz Butler of Prodigy playing the Firebird on British TV. Comes with the original road case stenciled "Oasis" in white.

Oasis to headline T In the Park
[25 Mar 2002] Official Site
Oasis have confirmed that they will now be playing at Scotland's T In The Park Music Festival in Kinross this summer. They will headline the festival on Saturday 13th July. Their only previous appearance at T In The Park, was back in July 1994. On that occasion the band arrived at the festival near Hamilton by commuter train from Glasgow along with other festivals goers, who helped to carry their instruments on site (the band's bus had been refueled with petrol instead of diesel). Oasis will release their first single of 2002, "The Hindu Times" on April 15th on Big Brother Recordings. Their fifth studio album Heathen Chemistry will be released in July.

Liam bouncers back
[23 Mar 2002] The Sun

JUST when you thought it was safe to go out on the town again LIAM GALLAGHER returns as the biggest troublemaker in showbiz. The Oasis frontman got into THREE scraps as he was chucked out of London's swanky Met Bar.

He was at the top celeb watering hole celebrating the birthday of top party organiser NICKI DE METZ with girlfriend NICOLE APPLETON, her sister NATALIE and Natalie's PRODIGY star fiance LIAM HOWLETT.

The Royle Family's RALF LITTLE, CAT DEELEY, BRIAN DOWLING and Bill actress JANE WALL were there too.

ROUND ONE: Things turned nasty when someone accidentally bumped into Liam. He threw a drink and whacked bouncers who tried to grab him.

One onlooker said: "Liam was hitting out at the bouncers like a girl. Everyone in the bar was crowding round trying to see what was going on ? nobody was surprised to see that Liam was involved. Nicole was crying and trying to get him to stop."

ROUND TWO: The star tells his pals they are leaving and bumps into someone else on the way out. He is picked up by bouncers and thrown out.

The onlooker said: "They carried him out horizontally. A lot of people had been shoved by Liam and drinks were flying, tempers were frayed and the whole atmosphere had turned nasty."

ROUND THREE: Liam tried to get back into the bar and punched a bouncer when he was told no way.

Liam was bundled into a black cab ? having been left behind by a furious Nicole. I revealed on Wednesday how Liam scuffled with TONY HADLEY at a TRAVIS gig.

That was the first time he had got in any real bother since the birth of his and Nicole's baby Gene in July last year.

HEATHEN ANTICS
[20 Mar 2002] dotmusic
Liam Gallagher lost his cool backstage at a recent Travis gig and lashed out violently at Spandau Ballet star, Tony Hadley.

According to a British tabloid the Oasis star was drunkenly swigging champagne in the wings at Travis' Wembley Arena show when the pair crossed paths. Hadley, a long-time friend of Liam's former wife Patsy Kensit, is said to have asked Liam how he was doing when the erratic Oasis frontman shouted: "F**k off you cockney c**t!" Hadley responded by launching himself at Liam and the pair became engaged in a scuffle but were quickly separated without either being injured.

A witness told the paper, "Liam was about to get a pasting from the bloke who sang True!"

Meanwhile, Oasis have confirmed that the long-rumoured title, 'Heathen Chemistry', will indeed adorn their new album. Songs said to feature on the release include the single, 'The Hindu Times', 'Songbird', 'Force Of Nature', 'Better Man', 'Little By Little', 'Born On A Different Cloud', 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' and 'Hung In A Bad Place'.

U2 DENY TOUR RUMOURS
[12 Mar 2002] dotmusic
U2 have finally denied reports that they are to embark on a European tour this summer, after weeks of speculation. The band have posted a statement on their official website, insisting there is no truth to the suggestion that they would play 30 shows across Europe. Their comments come despite numerous newspaper adverts, which offered tickets to the shows, where the Irish rock heavyweights were reportedly due to be supported by Oasis.

The statement reads: "Stories have been swirling around the net for some time about possible dates in 2002 but contrary to current rumours there'll be no U2 dates this summer."

Oasis' mooted T In The Park headline slot remains empty
[6 Mar 2002] NME
OASIS's name was conspicuous by its absence at today's (March 6) announcement of the line-up for this year's T IN THE PARK festival - despite rampant speculation that they will headline. However, the headlining slot for which Oasis have been tipped, on the July 13 opening day, has been left unfilled.

The Chemical Brothers, Foo Fighters, Ian Brown, Badly Drawn Boy, Gomez, No Doubt, The Hives and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club were amongst those unveiled to play the festival (on July 13/14).

This year's T In The Park will be the ninth annual event. NME will sponsor the second stage, which for the first time ever will be moved from a tent to the outdoors, boosting the capacity of the festival from 45,000 to 50,000 a day.

NME.COM revealed last Friday (March 1), that Oasis were favourites to close day one. The Scottish Sun then reported they stood to make a £500,000 fee for the show. At a launch party in Glasgow's King Tut's today, event promoter Geoff Ellis told NME.COM "speculation like that [about Oasis appearing] could damage negotiations." Of the reported 500,000 fee for Oasis, Ellis said: "Some festivals might pay that kind of money but there are different parameters here."

While the The Chemical Brothers and Foo Fighters will co-headline the second day of the Main Stage, and Ian Brown and Badly Drawn Boy will close the King Tut's stage on the first and second day respectively, just where other performers will appear has not been announced. Others announced today are The Beta Band, Joe Strummer, Mull Historical Society, Tricky, A and Haven.

The full line-up will be announced by the end of April. Tickets go on sale on Saturday (March 9) at £37.50 for a day ticket and £62.50 for the weekend.

New Oasis song leaked
[1 Mar 2002] BBC
The long awaited new single from UK rockers Oasis has been leaked onto the internet more than a month before it is officially released. The Hindu Times, which comes out on 15 April and is the band's first release in two years, is available to download from a variety of message boards and websites, reports NME.com. The recording is a bootleg tape of the song's world premiere on a Norwegian radio station.

The track was unveiled at the band's tenth anniversary gigs late last year and was also given another airing at the band's recent shows in Watford and London's Royal Albert Hall. It is the first track taken from the band's as yet untitled fifth studio album which is lined up for a July release.
