NME Get It Wrong Again
[24 Jan 2002] Official site
NME.com today is carrying a story that the new Oasis album will be released on the 7th of May despite being told by Oasis representatives that this was not the case. We can definitely confirm that the album will not be ready for release on that date. It is currently planned for release this summer, but will not be ready in time for a May release

Oasis new album tipped for May release
[23 Jan 2002] NME
OASIS will release their new album in May this year, according to Internet sources. The group have been putting the finishing touches to the follow-up to 2000's 'Standing Of The Shoulder Of Giants' in recent weeks. The album, given a working title of 'Heathen Chemistry', was delayed last year while songwriter Noel Gallagher changed the parts he wasn't happy with, and brother Liam completed vocal duties.

Now, American lifestyle magazine Entertainment Weekly have reportedly listed the record's release date as May 7 in the US, which corresponds to a May 6 release in the UK. A UK spokesperson is currently unable to comment on the release date.

Oasis are gearing up for live shows next month, where fans are likely to get the opportunity to hear new songs. The dates, at the Watford Coliseum (February 5) and Royal Albert Hall (February 6) will be the band's first UK performances since their 'Noise And Confusion' tour last year. At those, Oasis played new songs 'The Hindu Times' and 'Hung In A Bad Place'.

OASIS have announced details of a 'club' warm-up for their show at the LONDON ROYAL ALBERT HALL.

The group will play at the Watford Coliseum on February 5, the night before their appearance at London's Royal Albert Hall on February 6, in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. Tickets go on sale this Thursday (January 24) at 9am through the group's official website, www.oasisinet.com , priced ’28.50. There will be no tickets on sale from the venue or any other ticket outlet.

The Who, who are organising the Albert Hall shows, will also play a warm-up date in Watford (January 31), as well as two dates at the Portsmouth Guildhall (January 27-28).

GALLAGHER BROTHERS GO FOURTH
[22 Jan 2002] dotmusic
Fourth Volume are to become the first unsigned band to support Oasis, dotmusic can exclusively reveal. The West London group, who are managed by Paul Gallagher, Noel and Liam's brother, will open for Oasis at the Watford Coliseum on February 5.

The show, which takes place the day before Oasis play the Royal Albert Hall, will see Fourth Volume immediately thrust into the rock and roll limelight, despite the band having played just five gigs since forming last June.

As revealed on dotmusic earlier this month, Liam and Noel were spotted watching the band at a show in the King's Head in Fulham. Initial suggestions that they were on the verge of signing to Noel's Sour Mash record label now appear to have been wide of the mark, with the Gallagher brothers more likely sizing them up for the support slot.

Paul Gallagher told dotmusic today of the potential of Fourth Volume, who play the Water Rats in London this evening. They're currently unsigned and are the first unsigned band to support Oasis, as well as the first London band to support Oasis. And on merit also, said Gallagher.

He described them as Crowded House meets Squeeze meets Lennon. Big Voice. Big Songs. Big Band. Tickets for the Watford show go on-sale on Thursday, priced at ’28.50.

Oasis turn down chance to play Isle Of Wight festival
[18 Jan 2002] NME
OASIS have knocked back the chance to play at the proposed return of the ISLE OF WIGHT festival this summer, the event promoter has claimed. John Giddings of organisers the Solo Agency said the Gallagher brothers baulked at the fee he offered them. "They said they were washing their hair that evening," he explained. "They obviously weren't interested in the history." As previously revealed on NME.COM, The Strokes, White Stripes, Pulp, The Charlatans and Placebo have all been approached to play the festival. Organisers plan to hold it on June 3 at 20,0000 capacity Seaclose Park, Newport. Now Rollingstone.com claims the names of Ash, Manic Street Preachers and The Hives can be added to the list.

The festival was last held in 1970 when 600,000 people, mostly ticketless, flooded onto the island to hear the likes of The Who, Jimi Hendrix (in his final UK show), Miles Davis, The Doors (in their final UK concert with Jim Morrison) and Sly And The Family Stone.

"It's taken 30 years for the people of the Isle of Wight to recover from the amount of people that descended on them in 1970," said Giddings. "But they now realise that the name Isle of Wight is synonymous with music festivals worldwide, right alongside Woodstock and Glastonbury. They see this as a great asset for the island to sell for tourism."

While Giddings is keen to see the festival become a regular fixture on the UK circuit, he is keen to point out that there will be no dance acts. "I don't want any dance music," he insisted. "I don't want any of that crap. We want real songs played by real people. Anyone with a cassette machine can go away."

Blur/Oasis album head-to-head denied
[17 Jan 2002] NME
A spokesperson for BLUR has denied tabloid reports that the group will go head-to-head with OASIS with their new album releases later this year. Oasis have now almost completed work on their new studio album, which as reported previously on NME.COM, has been given a working title of 'Heathen Chemistry'. The record was due for completion late last year, but Noel Gallagher delayed the release while his brother Liam completed his vocal duties. Now, according to today's The Sun newspaper (January 17), the record will be released in June, the same month as the new album from Britpop rivals Blur.

Blur finally started recording their new album late last year - putting paid to rumours of fall-outs amongst the group and fears they had finally split. Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree started writing together in Damon's own Ladbroke Grove studio after months apart following the phenomenal success of Damon's side project Gorillaz. Blur are rumoured to have completed ten songs for the album. However, a spokesperson for the group told NME.COM the album is still far from complete, and the band haven't themselves talked about a release date yet. She added that everyone is "very pleased" with the progress made so far.

BIG BROTHERLY LOVE
[11 Jan 2002] dotmusic
Noel Gallagher is rumoured to be on the verge of signing a band managed by his own brother to his record label, dotmusic can exclusively reveal. Gallagher, along with brother and Oasis frontman Liam and bassist Andy Bell were amongst the audience for the latest London show of indie four-piece Fourth Volume on Thursday night. The group, whose previous incarnation was as Coney Green, played at The King's Head pub in Fulham, watched by Noel, prompting suggestions they could be the latest signing to the label, Sour Mash. Fourth Volume are managed by Paul Gallagher, whose CV includes A&R for the likes of Creation Records, the label that unleashed Oasis in 1994. Ant Brown, sound engineer at the venue, said the band were "absolutely" the sort of group Noel would probably be interested in, adding that the brothers were "very well behaved." He explained: "They are very melodic group, but it's certainly an indie band. It's really catchy melodies and a really big voice. I wouldn't say they are really retro, fairly contemporary in fact. "I've seen them a number of times before but I was very impressed this time. They were a lot more retro in the past." Ant explained that once Fourth Volume had completed their set, the rock entourage moved into a different part of the venue, closer to the bar.

A dotmusic eyewitness said: "Liam looked f**king cool, all dressed up in his parka. He's such a rock star. They were both pretty friendly, although Liam did more skulking about. Noel had a pint permanently in one hand and a cigarette in the other."
