Noel Gallagher's studio to be sold
[23 Jan 2008] NME
The recording studio where Oasis recorded their 'Heathen Chemistry' album in 2002, is being sold.
Wheeler End Studio had been on long-term let to Noel Gallagher, who had invited friends such as The Coral and Ian Brown to record there.
The studio, located in Buckinghamshire, has also been used by the likes of George Harrison, Robbie Williams and Paul Weller.
The studio has a price tag of £3.9 million and the owner, Suzanne Lee, former wife of blues rocker Alvin Lee, is hoping a buyer will buy it to and continue to put it to recording use.
"After 27 years of running the studio, I am incredibly attached to Wheeler End, so selling it hasn't been the easiest of decisions to make," she said.
"But the time has come to move on. What I want more than anything else is to see it sold to someone who intends to carry on using it as a recording studio and to preserve its amazing heritage and atmosphere.
Oasis mixing new album this week
[9 Jan 2008] NME
Oasis are reportedly mixing their latest album in Los Angeles this week, it has been reported today (January 9).
According to a report on US radio station G Rock, the bandfs seventh studio record is being mixed after Oasis finished recording sessions at London's Abbey Road Studios late last year.
The band also recorded and mixed part of their last album, 2005's 'Don't Believe The Truth', in the city with producer Dave Sardy, who is based there.
At the time Noel Gallagher told NME.COM he had been initially reluctant to work in Los Angeles, but eventually enjoyed the experience.
"I've got to say I was bit nervous going to America because it's a bit like being in a little spaceship going into the Death Star in 'Star Wars' when you go over to that country, especially Los Angeles," he declared.
"I was like 'Fucking hell, there's loads of idiots with long hair. I don't want to meet any rappers or anyone in a rock band' but once we got over the initial hurdle it was great. We were in our own little bubble."
The album is expected to be released in the spring. However, the band have yet to confirm any details.
Oasis' Liam Gallagher to lead Manchester supergroup?
[3 Jan 2008] NME
Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher is set to head a supergroup next month in Manchester.
According to The Sun's Bizarre column, the singer will team up with legend Ian Brown, and Freebass
- the band featuring The Smiths' Andy Rourke, New Order's Peter Hook and Mani from Primal Scream - at Manchester Versus Cancer charity concert.
The event will take place on February 23 at the MEN Arena.
The Freebass collective has been a side project for the three bass masters for several years.
The band have reportedly been recording an album together, calling in vocal favours from singer Tim Burgess and Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie.
Kasabian joined onstage by Oasis star during Hogmanay show
[1 Jan 2008] NME
Kasabian were joined onstage by pal Noel Gallagher as they rang in the New Year in the early hours of this morning (January 1) with a special Hogmanay show in Scotland.
The band rounded off 2007 with a spectacular performance which saw fireworks blasted off at the climax of their hour-long set in Edinburgh Gardens. And the Oasis main-man joined them for the last three songs, performing on 'Club Foot', 'Stuntman' and 'LSF'.
Kicking off with 'Shoot The Runner', the Leicester rockers were greeted by a raucous crowd as they reeled off tracks from their second album 'Empire' for the last time before they head into the studio to work on their new LP.
During the show, the band also ran out hits from their debut album including 'Processed Beats'. Frontman Tom Meighan dedicated set closer 'LSF' to late Motherwell FC footballer Phil O'Donnell who died tragically following a match at the weekend.
"Edinburgh, you have been fucking empire," said Meighan. "I fucking love you. I didn't want to be anywhere except here."
Up to 90,000 people were estimated to have taken to the Scottish capital's streets for the Hogmanay party.
