Paddy Fielders' Tea Partyis an officially recognised English speaking society at Waseda University. At Paddy, students and alumni with various nationalities and backgrounds enjoy discussions in English to further enhance their communication and social skills.
Paddy was founded in 1991. Our mission is to enhance English and communication skills among members while broadening each other’s understanding of the various cultural and global issues from around the world. We strive to be an open community, capable of enjoying college life with people from a multitude of backgrounds.
Our discussions are organised into two sections beginning with causal conversations and ending with group discussions about hobbies, social issues, cultural values, and other various topics. For non-native English speakers, this is a chance to further cultivate and practice using English in a practical setting. For native English speakers, this is a chance to meet not only Japanese students, but students from various countries and learn about their cultures while enjoying the fellowship and contributing to the role of the English language in an internationally minded community.
We are an open and friendly group, welcoming newcomers and excited to make new friends. We do not discriminate age, English-ability, college, or any other quality you have. Even if you are late, or can only come to some of our meetings, you are still welcome to become a member. If you find our society interesting, please feel free to visit our meetings, or may you have any questions, please contact us through e-mail at CONTACT!
Paddy Fielder’sTea Party has many events prepared throughout the academic year. Some stu-dents who find the meetings difficult to attend still have the chance meet other members at the events and have a good time together. The events may chance depending on the school year so please contact us or refer to our calendar for details.
All members have a name card. These cards are used to find partners for pair chats and organise discussion groups. Regular Meetings are conducted in English.
