Why do I have to buy from Strangelove Records?
Yes, yes, this is the most important. Because,If you'd like to see my credit, please take a look at my auction feedbacks.
- You can buy Japanese releases cheaper than anywhere else.
- You can get rare stuff unavailable anywhere else. The most of items I deal are quite hard to get even in Japan and no other Japanese shop has such a large collection of Japanese singles.
- You can get CDs & vinyls in best condition. I'm especially nervous about the condition, being a collector myself. Haven't you had an experience that you bought "mint" CD and was disappointed to see the item? When I say mint, it really is, i.e. almost looks like new! If not, I'll surely let you know before purchase.
- You can get the most cordial service in any case. :-)
What's the point of collecting Japanese versions?eBay(These are only a few of them because I seldom sell at auctions.)
Yahoo Japan Auction
Well, apart from the different sleeves, bonus tracks, obi, extra booklets, lyrics etc., simply because they are scarce. We can get UK & US imports quite cheaply here in Japan, and the sales of Japanese releases are falling off, i.e. the number of pressings are decreasing. Some of them are quite hard to get either new or second hands. The rarity attracts us, the record collectors. As a matter of fact, the most ardent collector (like me) will collect anything even if it's identical to the one you own but for a single letter. :-)
Who runs this shop?
It's me, Junko (pronounced June-co, not Junk-o). I'm doing everything on my own. (I'm a woman by the way. Many foreigners take me for a boy!)
This is a side business of a Japanese record collector. Having started collecting British records through the Internet, I realised many people overseas are after Japanese versions and they are sometimes traded at very high prices. At first I only intended to help my collector friends but as my site (Mansun Desperate Icons) grows bigger, a number of people started coming to me for Japanese CDs. So I set up this little shop.
Why is it called Strangelove Records?
I took the name from three of my favourites. Stanley Kubrick's film "Dr Strangelove" (though I like "A Clockwork Orange" the best), Depeche Mode's single "Strangelove" (one of my all time favourite songs) and a Bristol band called Strangelove (short-lived unsung hero of mine).
Also there was a little shop called Strangelove Records in Tokyo which was my favourite too but now closed.
I've chosen this name because,
- It sounds good!
- Easy to remember.
- It's a coined word and there's no other shop with that name on the web; easy to search by search engines.
- I've got an unusual love for records!
I'm going to visit Tokyo and would like to visit your shop. Where is it located?
I'm doing business at home and don't have a shop. However you can visit my humble apartment to make an inspection of poor housing condition in Tokyo and browse my items. :-)
Thank you.
Miss Junko Suzuki
