Ryan Adams collaborates with Starsailor frontman 20 Dec 2001 [NME]
Alt-country rock 'n' roller RYAN ADAMS and STARSAILOR's JAMES WALSH are set to collaborate on a future project, NME.COM can reveal.
The pair met up yesterday (December 19) in London, Walsh having recently finished a UK tour supporting The Charlatans and Adams in the city on a brief PR junket. Both are known to be fans of each other, having dedicated live tracks to the other.
Walsh revealed that Adams, renowned for his frenetic and voluminous work-rate, had wanted to go straight into the studio last night. But the Starsailor man is more meticulous in his approach and the two will now find a date in the New Year.
Adams' most recent collaboration saw him come together with new-wave folk singer Beth Orton to record a cover of the Rolling Stones 'Brown Sugar'. NME Carling Show 17 Dec 2001 [NME]

NME editor Ben Knowles said: "The NME Carling Shows this year are the most exciting we'll have done - I've ordered two weeks in the liver clinic afterwards. For NME to take over the Astoria for the whole month of February is just madness. In the early-'60s NME had The Who, Stones and The Beatles on the same bill. It's only fitting for the start of our 50th year that we'll have a line-up that is 2002's equivalent. Amazingly, it's only the start of this year's NME 5.0 celebrations." The bills confirmed so far for the NME Carling Shows are: Aphex Twin plus guests (February 6) ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Clinic, The Faint and one other guest (7) Starsailor, Ed Harcourt plus guests (8) Andrew WK, Lostprophets, The Coral and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, the lineup of the nationwide NME Carling Tour, as previously reported (10), Nickelback, Rival Schools, Backyard Babies plus one other guest (12) Pet Shop Boys plus guests (14) Doves plus guests (21) More artists will be confirmed imminently. Starsailor get support from Coldplay on first night of US tour 3 Dec 2001 [NME]
STARSAILOR started their first major US tour last night in BOSTON with members of COLDPLAY looking on.
Vocalist Chris Martin and guitarist Johnny Buckland, who were in town playing a Holiday radio concert, watched on as Starsailor showcased their album, 'Love is Here', to a smitten crowd.
The audience were treated to lushly rendered versions of 'Poor Misguided Fool' and 'Fever', as well as a solo acoustic version of 'Coming Down' and a cover Elton John's 'Rocket Man', by frontman James Walsh.
Although 'Love is Here' is not to be released in the US until January 2002, Walsh was clearly chuffed to find some of the crowd was already familiar with the songs, saying, "It's good to see people up front who know the words," and joking, "Did you get it off the Internet? Good work."
Other than one member of the audience, who Walsh scolded, for implying his group sounded like fellow northerners The Verve, the set was met with enthusiastic applause, the biggest being for the closing to their encoreless set - an epic and anthemic 'Good Souls' followed by a glowing version of 'Tie Up my Hands'.
The set in full was:
