2000年を１年間休養期間にあてた後に発表された作品。この作品ではバンド結成当初から活躍していた Wallis Buchanan が参加していない。この作品から Rob Harris が参加する。タイトルはもちろん2001年宇宙の旅 ( 2001 : a spsce odyssey ) からとったもの。M-8 の Main Vein は最初他人の曲を３曲をサンプリングしていたが、実際にはこれらの許可が下りなかったので、すでにプレスしてしまっていた日本初回盤 / イギリス限定盤 / オーストラリア初回盤のみにサンプリング版が収録されている。
