A Message from the Acte Kobe Japan to the Artists in Marseille
First of all, we would like to thank all artists in Marseille who supported us when the Earth Quake occurred in Kobe in 1995.
The Earth Quake in Kobe happened on January 17, 1995 brought us not only big loss but also an international artists network which can be grown in future. It is the Acte Kobe. The Acte Kobei s an artists network, and a movement to create a new idea of arts and society through cultural exchanges among the artists in Japan and France. The Acte Kobe France and the Acte Kobe Japan have been founded in 1997 for keeping activities based on these idea.
As follows are the events so far since 1995;

Following to Acte Kobe …Ÿ held in Marseille from App. to Jun., 1995 and Acte Kobe …  in Bern on Sept.15,1995, we invited Mr. Barre PHILLIPS, Mr. Alain DIOT, Mr. Ferdinand RICHARD from Marseille and Mr. Hans BURGENER from Bern, and organized Acte Kobe …Ħ at XEBEC Hall in Kobe from Jan.17 to Feb. 29, 1996. It was the first experience of exchange. When some disaster happens, people says, " Now is not time to enjoy music" in Japan in general. On the contrary people in Okinawa, southern islands of Japan, says "Playing music is the only thing to do." On the situation of no-music for us those days, we learned the necessity of arts from them.
Since then we have been doing artistic exchange like Photo Exchange Project between Kobe and Marseille. The project is itself an artistic activity though, the other purpose is to know each member's personal activities. Through this indirect exchange, the members who do not know their face each other have been growing friendship. Then we have been hoping to realize the direct exchange with the members of Acte Kobe-France who helped us financially and mentally after the disaster.
Telling our desire to Mr. Barre PHILLIPS, he was pleased and suggested us to have an exchange event in Marseille. Then eight of our members of Acte KobŽ Japan are to join this project in Marseille in 1999.
We consider this project being very important as the third steps to our activities. We believe it will be the starting and new relation.
First step is the Acte Kobe …Ÿ, …  in Marseille and Bern which was the action for artist solidarity. The second is the foundation of the Acte Kobe France and the Acte Kobe Japan, which create the positive exchange and network.
On this occasion of the third steps of the Acte Kobe movement, we would like to find out what we can do in future together.
