Acte
Kobe
Acte Kobe is an international movement
for artist solidarity. The idea was initially proposed by artists in
Marseilles, France after the earthquake in Kobe. Following the
founding of Acte Kobe-France and
Acte Kobe-Japan, interactive cultural
activities are being organized.
The first event, Acte Kobe, was held in
Marseilles, Kobe's sister city, on April 9, 1995. It was organized by
Barre PHILLIPS, a contrabass player and the A.M.I.(Aide aux Musiques
Innovatrices; director: Ferdinand RICHARD) in order to support
artists in Kobe who suffered the disaster. Many French musicians,
artists, photographers, filmmakers, dancers, poets, and novelists
took part in the event.
An all-night event called Acte Kobe 2
was held in Bern, Switzerland. It was organized by Hans BURGENER, a
violinist and a representative of W.I.M. Bern (Workshop for
Improvisational Music, Bern) on September 15. The profits from these
events were sent to Kobe to be used for the CAPARTY exhibition held
by C.A.P. (The Conference on Art and Art Project, an artists'
group in Kobe) at Xebec Hall in October 1995, and an all-night party,
concert, and video exhibition titled
Marseille~Bern~Kobe:ActeKobe at Xebec
Hall on January 27-28, 1996.
After a meeting at a tiny Chinese restaurant in Kobe with Barre
PHILLIPS, Alain DIOT,a painter, Ferdinand RICHARD, and Hans BURGENER,
who all came to participate in Acte Kobe
3, the Japanese staff made plans for further activities in the
future.
We would like to invite anyone who would like to support our
activities and ideas financially or mentally, to contact NAKAGAWA
