Have you ever wondered what itfs like to have sex with a gorilla? After one single listening of this album, youfll wonder no longer. This is some seriously sick, yet rare material. Not surprisingly, EVS are from Japan, this strange country where schoolgirls can produce 1 meter high fecal matter geysers out of their asses, also the home of my personnal favourite sickos, Noism. Although the bands share little in appearance (Noism is-or was?- a 2 guys project while EVS is a full line up, thus with a much more gliveh sound), both of them have this insane/psychopath feeling that make them stand immediately appart of the rest of grind or death scene. And if you think Gorgutsf and Cephalic Carnagefs masterpieces eObscuraf and eExploiting Dysfunctionf are unlistenable chaos, then what can you say about this. Itfs simply the sickest stuff Ifve heard in the last 5 years, and I mean it. Unlike Noism, EVSf devastation is not instantly perceptible. In the first place, itfs just very weird and twisted. Therefs even a pretty strong sense of humor to it, some passages almost sound like grunge or alt-rock parody. There are few blast beats, few screams/grunts (mostly shouted/spocken), even some not distorded but dissonant riffs. But as time goes, the overall heaviness (everything is suggested here, never demonstrated) begins to crush you just like a lead burden. All this dissonance and chaos, seemingly unharmful, slowly start to have a negative effect on your brain, and leaves you in the end crushed and disgusted. Itfs much like listening to Godfleshfs immortal masterpiece eStreetcleanerf but even more depressing and crushing, and 100 times louder. The first image coming to my mind while listening to it is a sort of post-apocalyptic contemporary painting, all greyed by industrial dust and pollution. To be honest, this album is not very addictive and like Noism used to say, enot for everyonef. But if you sick some intelligent (not to be mistaken with epretentiousf or eelitistf) extreme music, this band is a must-check for their totally unconventionnal, yet greatly effective approach, somewhere between the sickest moments of a doomy Gorguts (eCloudedf) and the utter negativity and post-urban heaviness of early Godflesh, mixed with that very specific Japanese insane feel. Highly recommended!!! T.G. Nihilistic Holocaust webzine |

Japan is the country that bred this band called Exactly Violent Style or just EVS. This 2005 release contains songs in a mixture of grind and hardcore. Various vocalstyles that bulge, scream or distorted while the guitars are melodic and manifesting buzzy creative riffing. Tempo of the songs is not only grinding speed but also room for experimenting (jazzy) mid tempo parts. A very diverse album with unconventional grind and a challenge to listen to. BRUTALISM |

EXACTLY VIOLENT STYLEc the name says it all! The band plays in an exactly violent style! But what a mess to describe it!! This first and self titled album is made of 10 tracks totally insane and intense as fuck!! This is one of the most intense band Ifve ever heard!! To describe it Ifd say itfs between Grind Core, Hard Core, Noise and XP / Free Jazz style stuffsc rather unusual indeed!! The tracks are all rather long with uncommon structures going from the most brutal parts reminding sometimes of old NAPALM DEATH or even DEAD INFECTION to almost accoustic parts a little in the MASTODON way. To be global, Ifd say that during the whole listening of this album, I thought of so many various bands such as DISMEMBERED FETUS, CSSO, MASTODON, ANARCHUS, SEPULTURA, DISGUST (JAP), CARCASS, PIGSTY and so many more, the whole with some HxCx touches (especially in the vocals) and even some 70fs feelings!! Fucking fast, and definitely intense! The main word to describe the band is intense! So intense that sometimes it seems that the music is uncontrolled! To conclude, before you read the interview to know more about EXACTLY VIOLENT STYLE, this band must be listened at least one time to know what real musical intensity is! Play it loud and die!!! | This is pretty damn unusual grindcore from Japan here.E.V.S. play something in between Discordance Axis, Swarrrrm/Shikabane and there's whole lotta weird avant-garde riffing here, Theres even guitar parts that are at times reminding me of what I heard from older Fushitsusha. The vocals kinda vary from the more HC influenced ones over the ones in the way of, lets say, Napalm Death , over to the screamo ones ( think Envy & Shikabane) and their sung pretty aggressive and frenzy.Drums played here are really fucked up, nothing you might expect, cause theyre basically into the jazzy/grind/experimental thing, like Naked City & Ruins for but much, much rawer.Speaking of rawness, this is a pretty raw-produced CD aswell. There's no any of that over-produced sound, you know, shriks call it anal-sound.So yeah this band is pretty weird as I said already, it's still pretty brutal , most of the tracks are kinda average lenght but there's also tracks that are a bit longer. To make it short, these tracks keep you thrilled for the most of the time, you newer know what to expect next and in the end you wanna hear it again. You bet this is some really good grindcore here! Dave the Power Dancer ,MOTHER FUCKER brutal music spitzine |
| Here's a pretty special-sounding, unconventional band from Japan... A tonic and schizophrenic mixture of sludge, grind, & free-jazzy metal, with some pretty delirious and wild guitar & bass work, truly out of whack song structures and a crazed delivery of raspy midrange/high vocals. It's pretty intense and unique in sound, with many bursts of aggressivity juxtaposed with smoothing moments in an interesting manner... It's well-executed, technically proficient and quite trippy but I have to admit it didn't exactly grab me; Perhaps is it a little too over the place, rhythmically speaking... Anyhow, this is still interesting work, very densely composed, the band is not afraid of writing long-running songs either... I'll just say it slightly reminds me of Naked City or even Dillinger Escape Plan, with some slightly more chaotic song-writing and an added particular japanese vibe... If you're into this kind of bands, then E.V.S. might suit you as well... Reviewed by Pierre ,BRAINDEAD |
| EVS this is EVS's first release, it's grindcore with alot of tempo changes and sparadic riffs, i have a hard time following alot of it but there are a bunch of cool parts.Theres alot of slow parts but also alot of sliding highs and all over the place riffing which is what i have a hard time identifing with though its all played good and sound quality is great, i could see many people enjoying this but i prefer more basic structures myself.Theres some clean guitars in bits as well as bass but almost everything is distorted and noisey otherwise. The vocals are mostly midrange to semi high screams and some low death voice, vocals are well varied and are mostly a grindcore style. The songs are a bit too long for my tastes, having so many riff and tempo changes is a bit much for my brain to take especially from a band i've never heard before.there isnt guitar superheroism despite the sparadic, tech style.Theres no intro's on here but there is a long noise bit at the end of the cd, its 48 minutes so if you really like this it would be worth getting, the band responded to emails and understood english so its not some unatainable Japanese release.its not bad, its well played but the style doesnt grab me alot Reviewed by Dudley , I CANT BELIEVE IT'S NOT GRIND CORE |
